Car Bomb Explodes On Lebanese Troops in Tripoli

advertisement

This is the second time this month that Lebanese troops have been targeted with a car bomb. Sectarian fighting between Sunnis and Alawite insurgents (usually described as Syrian sympathizers) and their allies, Hezbollah, have not stopped. Attacks on civilians and the military (composed of mainly moderate Muslims and Christians) continue, even after the Saudis brokered a deal to stop it and bring peace back to Lebanon.

These car bombings are supported by the 10,000 Syrian troops stationed on the border just across the river from Lebanon. These troops are giving moral support to the insurgent groups trying to destroy what is left of Lebanon. If the Lebanese army threatens to defend itself, the Syrians have promised to invade Lebanon once again to save their Alawite transplants.

Any syrian invasion be assisted by Hezbollah, and the various other named terrorist groups supported by Syria and Iran. The Lebanese army would be no match for these forces and Lebanon would be thrown into horror and turmoil as it was during the 70's.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The terror in Lebanon never seems to end (and probably won't as long as Hizb'Allah has the power they do).

If you wipe out Syria, you will have open warfare between Moderate and Christian Lebanese vs Hezbollah and Syria's other various splinter groups.

That wouldn't  happen, but even if it did-- there are so many different grouops in the area, so full of hatred for those who are "different", that it probably wouldn't make much difference.

I read an article a long time ago about how the Mossad was considering assassination of the Syrian leader. (i don't remember which leader it was at the time). They finally decided against it. Their reasoning was that it would make no real difference-- the country was so radical that whoever would replace him would be just as bad-- or worse!
